URS 2025 Conference Successfully Concluded in Rome

Urban Regeneration and Sustainability (URS) – 6th Edition
25–27 November 2025, Sapienza University of Rome

The Faculty of Design is pleased to share highlights from the successfully completed 6th edition of the international conference Urban Regeneration and Sustainability (URS), held at the prestigious and historically rich Sapienza University of Rome. Co-organized in partnership with IEREK – International Experts for Research Enabling Knowledge, the conference once again demonstrated the importance of interdisciplinary dialogue in shaping sustainable and resilient urban futures.

Over three days, the event brought together scholars, urban planners, architects, policymakers, and industry professionals who explored pressing global challenges such as rapid urbanization, environmental degradation, social inequalities, adaptive reuse, resilient infrastructure, and the crucial role of materiality in contemporary urban design.

Our faculty was proudly represented by Dean Prof. Nada Rožmanec Matičič, who delivered the conference’s opening address and presented her research on materiality in urban design and experiential pathways that connect natural and built environments.

In addition, several members of the Faculty of Design contributed with their presentations:

  • Jani Demšar,
  • Brina A. Lukić,
  • Robert Klun,
  • Lucija Erjavec Primožič (PhD candidate),

as well as our international collaborators:

  • Assist. Prof. Dr. Arbresha Ibrahimi (Macedonia),
  • Assoc. Prof. Dr. Marija Miloshevska Janakieska (Macedonia),
  • Prof. Dr. Dragan Ćalović (Serbia).

Many sessions were held online, enabling broad global participation and a diverse range of perspectives.

Hosting the conference within the historic halls of Sapienza created an inspiring backdrop for exploring new approaches to urban regeneration, sustainability, and the future of our cities.

We would also like to acknowledge Esraa, the conference coordinator, whose professionalism, dedication, and excellent communication contributed greatly to the seamless organization of the event. The Faculty of Design is proud to serve as a co-organizer of international academic platforms that promote knowledge exchange and innovative approaches to urban development. We look forward to future collaborations and to the upcoming scientific publication that will arise from the conference proceedings.

We invite you to follow updates on our website for further information and materials related to URS 2025.
