Traditional Urban October

This autumn, the Faculty of Design is once again preparing Urban October, a month dedicated to reflecting on cities, communities, public space, housing, sustainability and the many ways in which design can contribute to a better shared future.

From 1 October to 31 October 2026, Urban October will bring together a vibrant programme of events, lectures, encounters and creative activities for our students. This year, the programme will take place both at our Faculty and at other inspiring creative locations across Ljubljana.

The theme of this year’s Urban October is Adequate Housing for All, inviting us to reflect on one of the most important questions of contemporary urban life: how can we create living environments that are accessible, inclusive, sustainable, dignified and truly designed for people?

Within Urban October 2026, we will also once again mark World Habitat Day, an important international occasion dedicated to the future of our cities and the fundamental right to adequate shelter. For us, it is a meaningful opportunity to connect design education with urgent global questions — and to explore how creativity, responsibility and interdisciplinary thinking can help shape more humane urban environments.

For us, Urban October is more than just a series of events. It is a space for dialogue, curiosity, collaboration and reflection. It is a moment when students, mentors, professionals and partners come together to think about the world we live in — and the world we are still designing.
