Creative Workshop for the Blind and Visually Impaired in Izola:
The Art of Touch – Let’s Build a Mosaic
On May 21, 2025, we organized the first workshop using the mosaic technique and recycled materials for blind and visually impaired individuals at the Holiday Home for the Blind and Visually Impaired in Izola. The workshop was marked by creativity and the exploration of sensory experiences.
Participants experimented with the mosaic technique, using recycled materials to create unique frames, rich in textures, colors, and emotional expression.
We drew inspiration from Slovenian cultural heritage and nature, as the workshop took place in the picturesque coastal town of Izola. The creative process was infused with maritime motifs and local symbols, and the atmosphere was further enhanced by the scents of Mediterranean plants—lavender and rosemary.
For the artwork, we used wooden frames provided by the Reuse Center (CPU) and discontinued mosaic sample boards donated by a ceramic studio.
The workshop was led by architect Mojca Perše, who has many years of experience working with the mosaic technique.
*The project is co-funded by the European Union under the Creative Europe programme and the Ministry of Public Administration of the Republic of Slovenia.
