Creative Workshop for the Blind and Visually Impaired: The Art of Touch – Let’s Build a Mosaic
On May 22, 2025, we held the second workshop using the mosaic technique and recycled materials for blind and visually impaired individuals at the Holiday Home for the Blind and Visually Impaired in Izola. The workshop was once again filled with creativity.
Participants explored the mosaic technique using various materials, shapes, and sizes of ceramics and glass, as well as recycled materials used as the base. They created unique artworks, trays, and coasters, rich in textures, colors, and emotional expressions.
We drew inspiration from Slovenian cultural heritage and nature, as the workshop was held in the coastal town of Izola. The creative process was inspired by marine motifs and local symbols (waves, sea, landscape, fish), and the atmosphere was enriched with the scents of Mediterranean plants—rosemary and lavender.
For the artworks, we used wooden coasters from the Reuse Center (CPU) and discarded mosaic samples donated by a ceramics showroom.
The workshop was led by architect Mojca Perše, who has many years of experience working with the mosaic technique.
*The project is co-funded by the European Union under the Creative Europe programme and the Ministry of Public Administration of the Republic of Slovenia.
