WORLD HABITAT DAYS

Yesterday, on Monday, October 7, 2024, the Faculty of Design hosted the official opening of Urban October events within the framework of World Habitat Days. The event focused on the significance of wood as the material of the future in design. The program was masterfully moderated by the ever-charismatic and inspiring Asst. Prof. Blažka Müller,PhD. The opening was led by Acting Dean, Prof. Nada Rožmanec Matičič, who, in her greetings speech,emphasized the Faculty’s commitment to sustainable development and responsible practices. Her energy set a relaxed yet engaging atmosphere, allowing guests to truly appreciate the importance of the topics discussed.
The event featured honorable speeches by distinguished guests, including Her Excellency, Ms. Namrata S. Kumar, Ambassador of India, Prof. Rajendra Kumar (Lovely School of Architecture and Design), Zoran Bricman (Ministry of Economy, Tourism and Sport – Wood Directorate), Jurij Dobrila (DOS), Bernard Likar, B.A.Sc, (Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Wood Industry Cluster), and Miroslav Novak, PhD, Principal of the Vocational College of Wood Technology and Design.
The conference titled “Wood as the Material of the Future in Design” followed, where experts including Prof. Jasna Hrovatin, PhD, Asst. Prof. Inge Kalan Lipar, Asst. Prof. Karin Košak Arzenšek, Lecturer Špela Klara Jambrek, Assoc. Prof. Danijela Domljan, PhD, Dr. Sc. Margarita Bego and Asst. Prof. dr. Art. Iris Lobavš Kukavičič, Asst. Prof. Ivan Bon, and Ms. Zeynep Tuna Ultav discussed the potential of wood in design. Presentations by M-Sora d.d. (Liza Križnar) and Podgorje d.o.o. (Denis Stepančič, Darko Šurila) enriched the program with insights into sustainable production practices based on wood utilization.
The final segment was the Design Talk roundtable discussion, moderated by Prof. Nada Rožmanec Matičič, where innovative approaches to solving global challenges through creative solutions were presented. Contributions were made by Lecturer Špela Klara Jambrek, Asst. Prof. Dr. Petra Bole, Špela Fajdiga, a student of the Faculty of Design and sen. lect. Tjaša Čakš, M.A..
