DRWO4.0

The Faculty of Design has successfully completed its activities in the third reporting period of the DRWO 4.0 project, which promotes the digital transformation of the wood processing industry in the Danube Region.

During this period, together with our partners, we co-developed a Joint Action Plan for the transformation of the sector in line with Industry 4.0 (I4.0) standards. The Faculty of Design and the Wood Industry Cluster prepared recommendations for the Slovenian sector, based on close collaboration with associated partners and stakeholders, emphasizing innovations, digital solutions, sustainability and design-oriented approaches.

A network of three Pilot Environments (PEs) was also established, connecting institutions, companies, and other actors from partner countries. The Faculty of Design is part of PE West, which brings together Austria, Germany, Slovenia, and the Czech Republic. As part of these activities, we participated in the opening event in Pécs (Hungary) and took part in a study visit to Austria (Kuchl). We were hosted by the Salzburg University of Applied Sciences, where they also offer a study program in Design Management. This visit enabled the exchange of knowledge and best practices in innovative design solutions and the use of digital technologies in the wood industry. Within the PE West two online thematic meetings were concluded on the topics “Design of Wood Products” and “Lean and innovative materials / practices”.

Through our involvement in DRWO 4.0, we are strengthening the role of design as a key connecting element between the creative industries and the digital and sustainable transformation of the wood processing sector.
