Conceptual Solutions by Students of the Faculty of Design

A celebration of creativity, the city, and community

On Monday, March 31, 2025, we celebrated the opening of the exhibition Ljubljana Through the Eyes of Young Designers: Conceptual Solutions by Students of the Faculty of Design in the Historical Atrium of Ljubljana Town Hall.
The event, part of our traditional GoinGreenGlobal Design Week, exceeded all expectations – both in terms of attendance and the magical atmosphere that unfolded among the works, the people, and the conversations.

The exhibition, on view until May 4, 2025, is the result of a successful application to a public call by the City of Ljubljana, and represents not only a great recognition for our institution but also an invaluable opportunity for our students.
It is the largest exhibition in the history of the Faculty of Design, which fills us with pride and affirms the importance of our mission – especially in a year when we mark 20 years of our institution and celebrate the many creative successes of our students, mentors, and colleagues.

The opening began with a heartfelt and thoughtful welcome speech by the Dean of the Faculty of Design, Prof. Nada Rožmanec Matičič, u.d.i.a., who emphasized the importance of young creativity in the development of cities and society.
This was followed by an inspiring address from the Vice-Dean for Artistic Activities and project lead, Assist. Prof. Mojca Perše, who highlighted that this exhibition is not only the result of academic work, but also of a successful project supported by the City of Ljubljana, and a clear indication that our students are entering the world with responsibility and courage.
To conclude the opening, Timotej Čerček, a student representative and exhibiting designer, expressed gratitude on behalf of all participants – to the mentors, the faculty, and the community – and encouraged his peers to continue shaping the future with confidence and vision.

Guests enjoyed a warm reception and explored a wide array of student projects – ranging from spatial and interior design solutions to visual communications, fashion design, design management, and reflections on the sustainable identity of the city.
The exhibition shows how students from various disciplines perceive Ljubljana as a living organism – a place of connection, culture, coexistence, and aesthetic evolution.

The atmosphere at the opening was truly special – heartfelt, inspiring, and unifying. The large number of visitors, including mentors, students, representatives of city institutions and the wider public, confirms that design plays a vital role in shaping the rhythm of city life.
The event is clear proof that young designers are not just observers, but active co-creators of the environments they live in.

We also look forward to the exhibition’s accompanying event – Design Talk: A Roundtable on “Design Ethics and Social Responsibility”, which will take place on Thursday, April 3, 2025, at 10 AM in the Town Hall (Red Hall, 1st Floor).
The discussion will be led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Arbresha Ibrahimi (IBU, North Macedonia) and Mag. Veronika Gruden Bole, Vice-Dean for Quality and Social Responsibility at the Faculty of Design.

Ljubljana Through the Eyes of Young Designers is not just an exhibition.
It is a story about how young people see the city – with heart, knowledge, curiosity, and responsibility.

It is part of a larger narrative that we at the Faculty of Design have been writing for two decades – and a testament to the belief that creativity, sustainability, and academic excellence go hand in hand.

Thank you to the City of Ljubljana and to everyone who is part of this story. You are warmly invited to visit the exhibition!
