The project DRWO 4.0 – Danube Region Wood Industry Transformation Model towards Industry 4.0 was successfully completed on 31 March 2026. Within the project, partners developed two key outputs: the Transformation Model and the Guidelines for its application, which provide a comprehensive, practical and transferable approach to the digital, sustainable and process-oriented transformation of the forest-based industry.
The model is based on the integration of Lean, Digital and Green approaches, while also incorporating perspectives from design, innovation and the cultural and creative industries, which play an important role in developing new products and services and enhancing user experience.
FD contributed to the project particularly through interdisciplinary collaboration, integration of creative industries and user-centred development, as well as knowledge transfer into the educational environment. Even after the project’s completion, FD will continue to use the project results in its teaching and research activities, integrating selected elements of the Transformation Model into study programmes, project-based learning and cooperation with industry.
Companies, organisations and other stakeholders are invited to express their interest in applying the Transformation Model by signing an Expression of Interest, thereby remaining part of a community that promotes innovation, digitalisation and sustainability in the wood-processing sector.
