On November 20th and 21st, the DRWO 4.0 – Interreg Danube Project hosted a transnational workshop that brought together all project partners, associated partners, invited representatives of national institutions, local businesses, and other stakeholders. The event took place at the premises of the lead partner, CEKOM, in Gradište, Croatia.
The workshop focused on presenting opportunities for integrating Industry 4.0 principles into the forest-based and wood industries of participating countries, in line with findings from ongoing research. Attendees also shared best practices (TBC) and engaged in discussions, exchanging ideas and insights. Networking was enriched with a taste of traditional Slavonian cuisine, fostering a collaborative and welcoming atmosphere.
Key Activities and Future Focus
The workshop was followed by a partnership meeting to outline the activities planned for the third project phase. Discussions emphasized the establishing of pilot environments for implementing Industry 4.0 principles, one of those are being developed in collaboration with the Faculty of Design (FD), the Slovenian Wood Cluster, Salzburg University of Applied Sciences (AUT), and the Czech Furniture Manufacturers Cluster. Outcomes of the pilots will be showcased during an opening event hosted by the University of Pécs (HU).
Additionally, the meeting addressed topics related to project management and organization. Participants concluded their visit with a tour of CEKOM’s facilities, including fully equipped workshops for wooden product manufacturing and a wood-drying plant. These resources play a critical role in advancing the wood industry in the region and serve as an example of innovation and sustainability in practice.
