Fashion Beyond Centers: Identity on the Periphery
Yesterday, on Thursday, 11th of December, the Centre Rog hosted the international symposium Fashion Beyond Centers: Identity on the Periphery, led by Assoc. Prof. Tanja Devetak (Faculty of Design, Center for Design Research). The event brought together researchers, designers and experts who explored fashion identities, geographical peripheries, and the role of cultural space in shaping and interpreting contemporary fashion.
Through a series of engaging lectures, the symposium highlighted how regions outside dominant fashion capitals actively co-create contemporary fashion discourses. Discussions addressed the intertwining of diversity, tradition, materiality and social change, as well as the need to critically reflect on the dynamics between global fashion centers and peripheral spaces. Particular attention was given to the creative potential emerging from alternative fashion communities and local identities.
The symposium featured presentations by:
– Doc. MA Lidija Jovanović, Metropolitan University, Belgrade, Serbia
– Lea Vene, Faculty of Textile Technology, University of Zagreb; CIMO Croatia
– Petra Jerič, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, University of Maribor; Vivre, Slovenia
– Ivana Biočina, Institute of Sustainable Fashion, Koprivnica, Croatia
– Tina Princ, Things I Miss, Ljubljana, Slovenia
– Assoc. Prof. Tanja Devetak, Faculty of Design; Center for Design Research, Slovenia
– Vanja Meško Russenberger, Meško, Berlin, Germany
The symposium was supported by Center Rog and the Faculty of Design, produced by the Center for Design Research, and co-funded by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Slovenia.
Our sincere thanks go to all speakers, participants and partners who contributed to this inspiring and thought-provoking event.
